The Light Tree is a 10m high steel structure with 5 branches each culminating in an elliptical projection disc through which the viewer is taken into a visual jorney through an array of diverse landscapes, from micro worlds to macro. For this piece Malcolm has developed the use of the latest in projection technology and has produced the first outdoor sculpture to use projection in this way. The 5 projector housings use sensors and controls to maintain the optimum working conditions for the projectors. At night the sculpture disappears against the dark skies and the 5 circular projections illuminate like planets.
